Forklift trucks are important pieces of equipment utilized widely in business, particularly in distribution centers, warehouses, storage handling and industrial plants. A forklift truck is made of hundreds of components, including the cab, the carriage, the power source, the wheels and the engine. Forklifts normally have various types of attachments too. The following are a few of the most important forklift parts.

Engine of the Lift Truck - At the rear of the machine, the lift truck has its power source. The different types of engine on the forklift would need varying power sources. Like for example, a lift truck with an internal combustion engine can have any of the following as its power source: LP gas, CNG gas, gasoline or diesel. Electric motor forklifts receive their power from a battery or fuel cells.

Frame of The Truck - The truck frame is the base of the lift truck and the most vital of all the lift truck components. This forms the core of the machinery. All other lift truck parts are attached to the base, like the counterweight, overhead guard, wheels, axles and mast. Fuel and hydraulic fluid tanks may be part of the frame assembly also.

Counterweight Lift Truck Parts - While carrying heavy cargo, the counterweight enables the machinery to be balanced. This particular component is cast iron and comes attached to the back of the lift truck. The counterbalance balances the truck frame to prevent it from tipping over when a load is being lifted or carried on the front. In an electric forklift, the heavy lead-acid battery provides balance and can function as part of the counterweight.

The Cab Area - The cab is also known as the operator compartment. Lift trucks would sometimes have closed cabs while others will be open to the air. There are really a lot of components situated within the cab for operating the forks. The cab has such essential parts like for instance the steering wheel, operator controls, pedals, seats, levers and switches. The dashboard has operator readouts.
