Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
A scissor lift consists of a series of crisscrossed steel arms that are connected to create an X pattern. When vertically raised, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform that is situated on top of the lifting mechanism. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting apparatus to be able to keep the workers safe and help to secure their tools.

Scissor lifts offer a low profile which is great for pavement, hard dirt surfaces and concrete. These machinery use either an electric motor or a combustion engine to be able to power the lifting apparatus and move the lift. The operator will need to move the lift itself if he or she has to travel horizontally, since the lift mechanism just operates the lift in a vertical way.

Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
The rough terrain scissor lift and the standard scissor lift use identical lifting technology. The key difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base that is particularly made for surfaces which are uneven. These units also provide higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive in order to easily navigate through difficult and muddy terrain.

Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are designed to be raised both diagonally and vertically. This specific unit has a small work platform that houses controls in order to control the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine in order to power the hydraulics which power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift model.

Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are attached with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting equipment has a small work platform or a bucket that is outfitted with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either off-road or hard surface tires. These lifts are made to be able to reach over top of and on top of buildings.

Aerial Mast Lift
To be able to lift a work platform vertically into the air, the aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast. The lift is typically powered electrically or pneumatically and are self-propelled models. These machinery provide an ideal solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is essential to remember that aerial mast lifts are not recommended for off-road use and are limited to vertical movement.
