Duties of a Forklift Operator
The job of a forklift driver is to be able to transport supplies from one place to another, normally within warehouses and factories. Forklift operators need particular training, which is usually offered by the workplace. Potential operators must be able to pass both a drug test and a background check.
Daily Inspections
Performing functionality and safety inspections every day is part of the many responsibilities of a forklift driver. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration mandates that all types of forklifts be checked before use. The driver should check the forklift again after the shift. Annual safety training is an essential part of the job description of a forklift driver.
Unloading and Loading
To unload and load supplies and to stack products in a timely and efficient manner, forklift drivers use the forklift controls.
Weighing Materials
A forklift driver's duties include weighing the supplies they are moving, and logging the weights.
Quality Control
One more essential part of a forklift driver's job is quality control. This includes ensuring orders are correct and making sure the supplies do not sustain damage while moving them.
Battery Maintenance and Care
Caring for the forklift battery helps guarantee a long life span for the unit. Maintenance and care procedures comprise checking the level of water in the forklift battery around every five charge cycles, filling the cell to just above the visible protector, being careful not to overflow the water, and cleaning up any spills. Once a forklift battery is charging, never interrupt the cycle.
PPE: Personal Protective Equipment
When performing works on the battery, such as inspecting the water level, Personal Protective Equipment or PPE is necessary. Both hand protection and eye protection must be worn, and a fire extinguisher and acid spill kit must be on hand. Forklift drivers must always observe safety rules. The charging area must be kept clear of open flame and ventilated.
